What is image noise in digital photos?
Image noise is an unwanted property of digital photos, and while having an appearance similar to grain in analogue film it is not necessarily comparable. Image noise makes a photo look sharper, but details in the contours disappear. It can appear when to many pixels diverge from the desired lightness or colour of the original image. This happens when pictures are taken in dim lighting or with a high ISO-sensitivity. It's possible to lessen the effect by editing the photo.
